Family Medicine Faculty Physician, Cahaba+UAB Family Medicine Residency, Clinical Director of HIV Care, Cahaba Medical Care
Why I love to teach
Dakota Price MD has dedicated his career to bridging the gap in primary care for individuals living with HIV, driven by an early recognition of the critical role primary care physicians can play in the lives of this patient population while doing his Family Medicine training in Memphis, TN. With an understanding of the importance of accessible, compassionate care, Dr. Price was motivated to equip himself with the skills needed to address the unique needs of HIV patients. After seeing the need for integrated HIV care in primary practice, Dr. Price relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, where he led the establishment of a comprehensive HIV primary care treatment program within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) network across central Alabama. This program not only aimed to serve a broad geographic region but also focused on removing barriers to care and ensuring access to high-quality, continuous treatment for underserved communities in urban and rural areas throughout Alabama. Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Price is deeply committed to education and mentorship. Recognizing that the future of HIV care lies in the hands of well-trained, empathetic healthcare providers, he implemented training initiatives for family medicine residents and advanced practice providers (APPs), emphasizing the integration of HIV care into family medicine. Through hands-on training and mentorship, Dr. Price has guided many emerging healthcare professionals, instilling in them the knowledge and confidence to offer compassionate, skilled care to HIV patients.
