- He’s Dean of Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
- Previous to that he was chairman of the department of Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine where he collaborated extensively with the world-renowned cardiac surgeon and innovator Michael DeBakey.
- He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University.
- His main research focus is in lipids, he’s authored several landmark trials in this field including the seminal AFCAPS/TexCAPS study.
- He was the National President of the American Heart Association and President of the International Artherosclerosis Society.
- He’s a member of the Institute of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
- He has received many honors and has published several books. A Pubmed search of his name yields over 600 publications!
