Utilizing AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for our Advanced Practice Providers
While physicians are the primary audience of our courses and workshops, Medmastery’s activities are applicable to many types of providers. We issue two types of certificates, one for physicians and one for non-physicians. Physicians (MDs, DOs, and those with equivalent medical degrees from another country) redeem certificates awarding them AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, while non-physicians redeem participation certificates that state the activity was certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and the amount of credit the activity was designated for.
Nurse practitioners and registered nurses
For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts participation in an activity certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.
Physician assistants
The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) states that AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ are acceptable for continuing medical education requirements for recertification.
Other non-physician disciplines
Many other non-physician disciplines such as pharmacists, psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and researchers may be able to use their certificate of participation towards relicensure or recertification, as long as the topic is relevant to the applicant’s field or discipline. It is advisable for you to verify equivalency with your specific governing body. In addition, many societies and credentialing bodies also accept AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. If you have doubts about whether your participation in an activity will qualify for continuing education, please contact your board or governing body prior to taking the course or workshop.
