• Ascertain different types of prosthetic heart valves (i.e., mechanical, bioprosthesis, homografts, and percutaneous).
• Master functional and morphological assessment of prosthetic valves.
• Differentiate obstructive hemodynamics due to valve design from pathologic obstruction.
• Select the optimal valve prosthesis for each patient.
• Recognize prosthesis-patient mismatch.
• Discriminate between trivial or mild transprosthetic regurgitation that’s considered physiologic from abnormal regurgitation.
• Manage artifacts that obstruct your view of a regurgitant jet or other structure.
• Determine the main complications that can occur after prosthetic valve implantation.
• Use echo to assess prosthetic valve function / dysfunction.
• Determine which other imaging modalities can be useful to assess your patient’s valve prosthesis.
